For anyone who wants to take up residence in a piece of Macau real estate history, look no further than Dai Heng Dai Ha (Happy Mansion), understood to be the first residential building built by Stanley Ho in the Sai Van Praia Grande area almost 50 years ago.Located in a U-shaped building with a central courtyard fronting the lake, this 1200 square foot, 3-bedroom, 2-bathroom apartment is set back off the road, benefiting from the quiet of a rocky hillside at the back and lake views at the front.
Previously in a very poor state from having been used as a staff dormitory, a major renovation was required. The small cramped kitchen at the back was brought to the front living space and combined with an open dining area to become a major focal point of the home. The pale sandy-colored marble of the kitchen and bar tops was selected to reflect the color palate of the hill-side outside.
Two bedrooms were combined into one huge master bedroom, with oversized windows to bring in the light. Both bathrooms are signature Ambiente designs – with Italian stone tiles, open plan showers, and stainless steel basins.
A hand painted concrete-latex flooring was installed to give a modern “loft” look, and to ensure the apartment stays cool in the summer and warm in the winter. The furnishings are a mix of Western and Asian, with sliding teak doors adding to the Oriental feel. Stark white walls with a red feature wall showcase original art by local artist Brian Tilbrook.
A real sense of neighborhood and community has developed in the area. On the waterfront are several local restaurants and a small but active tennis club. Residents are often seen enjoying evening strolls or walking their dogs around the banyan tree-lined lake. This is a perfect example of how surprisingly modern and well appointed apartments can now be found behind the façade of older historical buildings.
This apartment is currently rented. However Ambiente has other apartments in the area for rent and for sale, and one in the same building that will become available for rent in early 2012. For more information please contact Suzanne Watkinson at +853 6622 8541 or on firstname.lastname@example.org
